Week 15 Project Manager 15/5 (14)

I'm posting this 15/5 early, as my wife and I will be heading up to Pennsylvania in the morning (Wednesday). Only a little more than a week to go, and there is still plenty to do! This week, Team ALIVe has been diligently working to complete the remaining videos, graphic design and content entry of the other three modules, Extension document, Activity Log document, and Alpha testing of the Risk-taking module (again, I'm sure I'm forgetting something). Joy and I are taking care of all of the incidentals, communications with others, and miscellaneous documents, while Jea and Eun Ju continue to plug away at actually building the orientation within IVHS. Although they've had a few minor problems with functionality within the learning management system, most everything has gone to plan so far. I think it looks great, and I can't wait to display all our hard work next Thursday!

Being that Thanksgiving is this week and there isn't much time until Showcase, we have our work cut out for us. Joy and I both won't be back in town until Sunday night. During our time away, though, we will be in constant contact with Jea and Eun Ju to assist their work in any way we can. I personally will be working to finish several of the documents mentioned above, and I'll be finishing up the changes to the PowerPoint presentation for next Thursday. Beta testing will start Monday and end on Wednesday. Dr. Barbour has been very helpful in getting that set up so we can quickly collect results. We will also be meeting on Wimba on Wednesday night to go over the data, finish the Evaluation Report document, and shore up any last minute details before the big day. It will be a busy week, no doubt!

Hopefully by the next (and final time) I post our team 15/5, we'll be completely ready to go! Does that ever really happen, though? :) Happy Thanksgiving and we'll see you next week!

Week 14 Project Manager 15/5 (13)

Project ALIVe continues to come together, little by little. This past week Jea and Eun Ju continued working on the Organization, Self-Regulation, and Responsibility modules, Joy worked with Clayton to finish up the first video (which looks great), and I worked on the PowerPoint for the Showcase as well as on coordinating efforts to complete the Alpha testing (which we will hopefully have in the 6200 Consultants' hands by tomorrow night). I read the Rowland article for this week's class. In addition, Joy and I worked together to retroactively complete the Flowchart for project documentation purposes.

After discussing the Rowland article tomorrow night, Team ALIVe will meet to hammer out the remaining days before Showcase. First, we'll need to make sure things are loaded to Moodle accordingly. Next, we'll cover what still needs to be done and who is doing what (since several of us are gone over part/all of the holiday week). Although I already have some ideas, we will also need to talk about what learning theory our project is based on (per Dr. Choi's request). We will need to make sure Alpha testing (usability) is ready for 6200 students. We'll need to shore up the remaining videos time frame with Clayton. In addition, we will need to leave the meeting with an understanding of when the project will be ready for Beta testing with IVHS students.

I am personally looking forward to wrapping things up in the coming weeks. It has been a long, yet very exciting and informative, semester. It's time to finish strong! In the coming week, I plan on finishing up changes to the PowerPoint, as well as emailing Dr. Barbour to get his IVHS students ready for our Beta test (late next week). I'm sure I'm missing something. Rest assured, we'll put our heads together and figure it out. Only 14 days to go!

Week 13 Project Manager 15/5 (12)

After another busy week preparing for this Thursday's Dress Rehearsal, I can honestly say I am beat! I have parent/teacher conferences this week, as well, so that doesn't help. This too shall pass, right?!? Anyway, while I'm sure everyone is a little tuckered out at this point, I feel good about the progress we've made in the last week... in the last three days, really. Between editing content, completing the PowerPoint presentation for tomorrow night, actually graphically building the first module, working with Clay to film video(s) for the modules, meeting on Wimba last night, and emailing Dr. Barbour several times (I'm sure I'm leaving several things out), it's been a crazy run over the last 72 hours. Hopefully the next day will be just as productive as we put the finishing touches on everything we've worked so hard on to this point.

My part of the last week revolved around the presentation itself. I spent much of my free time this past Sunday building the slideshow for the Dress Rehearsal. I wanted to put something together that was comprehensive, yet easy to talk through so that I'd stay under the 8-minute time limit. I used a past 6210 team's presentation as a guide to build what needed to be covered. Hopefully what I've put together will adequately and accurately describe what Project ALIVe is. In addition, I spent some time looking through the content one last time before forwarding it back to the group. Lastly, I completed my two remaining desk crits based on feedback given at the last Project Day.

Well, the upcoming weeks promise to be just as busy if not busier. During our meeting tomorrow night, Joy and I plan to hammer out a flow chart. We will also put together our storyboard if need be (hopefully we can just put things together from existing screenshots). Jea and Eun Ju will continue working on the design of the modules themselves, while Joy will work with Clayton to produce the remaining scenario videos. Alpha and beta testing are also right around the corner. December 4th will be here faster than we all think, especially with the Thanksgiving holiday coming up (both Joy and I will be gone for five days that week). Wish us luck again!

Week 12 Project Manager 15/5 (11)

I'm posting a little early this week due to being in Atlanta for the GaETC Conference tomorrow (Wednesday).

With each passing week, it seems I keep making the same comment regarding how time just seems to continue to fly. Here we are... just a little more than a week away from Dress Rehearsal... from the evening where we're supposed to have the best rough version of our project up, running, and ready to present. Can I say we're there right now? No way. Will we be ready to share where we're at by next Thursday? Well, I assume so... with a lot of hard, last minute work. It's going to take a complete group effort to pull together what will end up being our first complete module (risk-taking). We will also have to come together on what exactly will be said and presented that night. I will need my team to be an active part in preparing for and delivering the eight minutes of information about all of our hard work to date.

This week Team ALIVe continued work on the actual content of each module. Several meetings ago we decided that each module would be set up in a similar way: First, the users would read a definition of the highlighted term (soft skill). He/she can listen to the definition, and they can also refer to a graphic referencing the topic. Next, the student will learn about the steps necessary to put this soft skill in their tool box, so to speak. Finally, they will read and watch (via embedded video, courtesy of 6200 consultant Clayton Shaw) a scenario further describing the soft skill. As mentioned before, we plan to at least have one scenario ready to share by next Thursday. We already have the definitions, steps, and scenarios written out and edited for each of the modules. Jea and Eun Ju will complete the actual graphic design of the module(s) once they return from the AECT conference in Orlando.

As far as what I specifically did this week, I looked up clipart for each of the modules. While it took me several hours to find copyright-free images, I think the ones I found will serve their intended purpose. I also spent some time combing back through what Joy had passed on regarding the actual content of each module. I then passed this document on to Lenrose for editing. I also arranged our video work with Clayton. He will begin work on this as soon as he can.

Like I mentioned before, we have a very busy week ahead... not to mention things going on outside of this class. For example, I have parent/teacher conferences next Wednesday and Thursday. This will consume much of my free time over the next week. I will just have to contribute where/when I can. Wish us luck as we press forward and prepare for the Dress Rehearsal!
